Ignore the petitions wanting a ban on "Assault Weapons"

Created by E.J. on July 11, 2016

There are petitions circulating requesting a ban on "Assault Style Weaponry" on the basis that they cause a majority of mass shootings. In reality, this title belongs to handguns. The name Assault Rifle for the AR-15 is actually a falsehood, as AR stands for ArmaLite Rifle. They use the same bullets, mechanisms, and magazines as a hunting rifle. And if you ban rifles, you need to ban shotguns, as they are more dangerous than rifles. And if you want to stop the problem you will also need to ban handguns. So, either pass a law shattering the second amendment that would anger people on all sides of the political compass, or ignore a petition that wants to do pass a law further tying the hands of the responsible majority of gun owners.
