Cetaceans (e.g. dolphins and killer whales) are extremely intelligent and social animals with natural habitats that span oceans. Wild cetaceans have complex social structures similar to human families. Killer whales stay with their mothers throughout their life. Wild dolphins live upwards of 40 years and wild killer whales can live into their 80s. Wild killer whales and dolphins are not considered dangerous to humans. By contrast captive cetaceans live their lives in pools. Their families are routinely split apart. Captive cetaceans live much shorter lives than their wild counterparts (the life expectancy of captive killer whales is 25 years). Captive killer whales have been know to hurt and even kill their trainers. Humans do not need to mistreat animals for entertainment.
