California is the only state within the United States where lane splitting is still legal. Along with lane splitting, it is known as lane sharing, filtering, or whitelining. This petition could stop that. The reason this petition was created is to prevent the deaths of many people involved in lane splitting incidents. There is a reason that all other 50 states have stopped this from happening.
California would be a much safer place if lane splitting was illegalized. Also, drivers of regular automobiles cannot easily see motorcycles, commonly staying in blind spots. If this petition were to gain a sufficient amount of signatures, that would be a tremendous achievement.
