Assault weapons were only created for one thing, war. The usage of handguns is understandable for defense, however weapons that can empty 30-40 bullets in under five seconds are extremely unnecessary for defense. These weapons should be only in the hands of an elite group of highly trained individuals. Over the last few years, there have been many mass shootings caused by these assault weapons that have taken place at schools, workplaces, and public places. These tragedies have promoted discussions of enforcing stricter policies towards banning assault weapons, these trends are hopeful.
