The Star-Spangled Banner was recognized as the National Anthem on March 3, 1931 via congressional resolution 46 Stat. 1508, codified at 36 U.S.C. § 301; signed by President Herbert Hoover.
The anthem, originally written in September 14, 1814 by Francis Scott Key, highlights a very dark period in American history; specifically, a heinous threat to any African slave who dared fight for their own freedom (i.e. No refuge could save the hireling and slave, From the terror of flight or the gloom of the grave).
Our collective consciousness has arisen as manifested in the removal of the confederate flag in multiple States. We the people call for President Barrack Obama and Congress to officially end the recognition of the Star-Spangled Banner as the National Anthem. Deadline 01-19-17.
