Currently, military personnel are not allowed to possess or carry their legally obtained, permitted firearms on federal military installations. In the wake of the CT school massacre and given that many schools are on federal military bases, allowing military members with conceal-to-carry firearms permits to carry them in non-sensitive areas on bases would enable them to protect against tragedies like the CT school shooting, Ft Hood, Virginia Tech, and other shootings in so called "gun free zones" It is too easy to gain entry to a base with a firearm and those bent on destruction can easily do so. Military installations do not search all vehicles for weapons nor could they routinely. I am asking the president to direct the SECDEF to open military bases for conceal/carry permit holders.
