The Israeli government continues to allow and fund the construction of settlements (colonies) on disputed land (claimed by both Israel and the Palestinian people). This is illegal under international law. Until a peace agreement has been reached between the Israelis and the Palestinians, Israel should not be allowed to build colonies on this disputed land.
Settlements are usually built on stolen land that has belonged to Palestinian families for generations, which they need to farm to grow food for their families. Settlements also steal water, which Palestinians need to survive. This stealing of land and resources is sanctioned by the Israeli government and military, and ignored by the United States. I call on President Obama to denounce this injustice and hold our ally accountable.
