The current Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) only provides employment protection for an employee taking time off to care for a very limited array of family members.
In our current society, many never marry, single parents are abundant, and grand parents are raising grandchildren. Mental health organizations have very limited funds and turn away the mentally ill.
I propose that the FMLA laws be expanded to include protection from job loss and include the employees right to use their own, earned, paid time off, to care for their (adult or minor) children, (adult or minor) siblings, (adult or minor) grandchildren and grand parents.
The law currently does not reflect the reality of our familial responsibilities and restricts us from providing properly for our ill family members.
