There is currently an approximately three-year supply of ammunition for assault and high-calibre weapons that are not reasonably owned for self-protection or sport. An immediate freeze on the sale and purchase of ammunition for these weapons, pending stronger legislation, will have a direct effect on new sales of ammunition, and on the exhaustion of current supplies.
The possession of semi-automatic and assault weapons by private individuals in our country is pandemic, and a freeze on the sale of these weapons will not address the current supply of weapons already in private hands.
Immediate action must be taken to address the wanton abuse of these weapons against innocent victims.
This is not an affront on the Second Amendment, which has been distorted to grave consequences.
