The criminal justice system is not equipped to handle the levels of mentally ill in America today. What's worse, the threat of criminal consequences bear no weight with the severely mentally-ill.
Time and again, we've seen severely mentally-ill people take their illness out on society, even killing our children before taking their own lives. We feel this happens when the ill are left untreated/under-treated, and too often, these people find easy access to high-power weaponry capable of inflicting tragedy in the blink of an eye.
We call for a uniform system of federally-run, state-supported facilities to house those deemed unfit to live unsupervised within society. We demand ACCESSIBLE, AFFORDABLE resources for parents of children and young adults who see a danger present.
