immediately grant a U.S. visa to Meriam Ibrahim and press diplomatic steps to hasten her release from Sudanese jail.

Created by C.K. on May 21, 2014

Meriam Ibrahim, the wife of a naturalized citizen of the U.S., is in jail in Sudan. Although she asserts she was raised as a Christian, she has been found guilty of the crime of converting to Christianity from Islam and marrying a Christian man. She has been sentenced to death. She is 8 1/2 months pregnant and her toddler son is jailed with her. Her execution is being delayed until after she gives birth. Her husband Daniel Wani has filled for a U.S. visa for his wife, but it has not been approved. This is a crisis situation and is an immediate concern for our government as she is the wife of a U.S. citizen. Beyond that, it is a humanitarian outrage.
