Immediately halt the use of all chimpanzees in medical research and prohibit their future use in this manner.

Created by R.D. on September 28, 2011

The United States is one of only two countries in the world still using chimpanzees for medical testing. Experimentation on chimpanzees has occurred for 40 years. To date there has never been a drug marketed for humans resulting from such research.

Chimpanzees are our closest biological relatives, intelligent and social. They live in family groups and require social interaction to remain psychologically healthy.

Testing has been described as torture because of the effect it has on the chimpanzees involved. Many spend up to 30 years alone. The experiments are painful and hazardous resulting in chronic pain and illness plus permanent psychological damage which is very much like PTSD in humans.

All federally owned chimpanzees should be retired to already existing primate sanctuaries.
