Immediately increase the Federal Minimum Wage to $15 per hour.

Since 1968, the increases in the minimum wage has not been commensurate with the rising cost of living, nor the increase in the nation's productivity. This was further exacerbated in 1981, when the minimum wage was frozen, to curb inflation, and was not increased until 1990, at which point, it was well below the poverty line for a family of two. At the current minimum wage level, in no state can someone work a standard 40-hour work week and be able to afford a two room unit at 'fair market rent'. They would have to work at least 63 hours at the least, and 175 at the most (Also, the state that needs 175 work hours is Hawaii). Single parent families would have to work two or three jobs just to make ends meet. That is entirely unacceptable.
