On behalf of the staff and students of the Detroit Public School System, it is formally requested that the Department of Education open an official investigation into the state of the Detroit Public School System. Budgetary cuts and poor policy making have resulted in deplorable conditions that DPS staff are expected to teach in and DPS students are expected to learn in. Staff concerns about the disrepair of the city's schools and the resulting hazardous conditions have fallen on deaf ears. The conditions are so abhorrent they likely amount to the violation of the students' civil and educational rights. Please act now to stop and rectify this great ongoing injustice.
