Meriam Ibrahim has been convicted of apostasy in Sudan for refusing to recant her religion and convert to Islam, and has been sentenced to death. Meriam is married to an American citizen, Daniel Wani. They have two children together, a 20-month old son and an infant girl (Meriam was pregnant when convicted and forced to give birth in prison with her legs chained). By virtue of their father, both of these children are American citizens, and are being held in prison with Meriam. Section 319(b) of the Immigration and Nationality Act allows for an expedited granting of citizenship for Meriam.
We call on the administration to grant Meriam Ibrahim American citizenship (and all of the pursuant protections thereof) under the INA and to demand her immediate acquittal and release.
