The size of the U.S. federal government today and the related budget is far larger than the tax revenue required to fund it on an annual basis, driving continued growth in the US deficit. Additionally, the rate of growth in federal spending each year continues to outpace the growth of existing and new revenue streams, making an already huge debt larger and larger with no end in sight.
This petition is simple. Enact legislation today to require fiscal responsibility and a balanced budget by 2016, before the current administration leaves office. Develop related spending controls and plans to eliminate the National Debt no later than the year 2015.
