The ability to patent life is absurd. The supreme court has shown that it will not choose the side of reason. Congress has never explicitly allowed the patenting of life, but the patent and trademark office continues to grant such patents. These patents are harmful to the American farmer. As the bread bowl of the world, we should allow our farmers every opportunity to reduce their overhead by saving seeds. Let's move research into new varieties back into the public university system where it belongs and immediately void all patents on living organisms.
