The United Nations has grown from a good idea into a bureaucratic behemoth that acts as a quasi governmental organization. The United Nations presents a direct threat to the sovereignty of the United States (and every other member nation.)
The United States economy is no longer strong enough to bear the weight of being the world's police force. We can no longer afford to fund the United Nations' intrusion into the sovereignty of other nations.
