In light of the recent disturbing revelations about federal attacks on freedom of the press in the United States in the form of criminal investigations related to alleged "leaks," we the citizens of the United States, from all parties and political persuasions, petition the federal government to immediately halt all criminal investigations of news organizations and to appoint an independent, bi-partisan commission to investigate abuses of press freedom by the federal government and to recommend executive and legislative remedies in order to prevent the recurrence of any such abuses. We further call upon the president to openly state that his administration will engage in no further such activities.
