To simplify the Welfare system in America, provide a Basic Income (BI) system. Credit every American equally a fixed dollar amount on taxes regardless of income, marital status, or employment.
BI covers minimum wage: all Americans collect BI on top of their income, making the combined figure a minimum living standard. The impact of a BI increase is felt progressively more by individuals with lower income than with higher, and affects all Americans.
BI functions as Unemployment and Disability benefits, but with zero chance of fraud.
BI encourages employment: unemployment benefits are withdrawn when a claimant becomes employed.
BI reduces the risk of starting small businesses.
America should have a BI system to reduce and eventually replace welfare benefits such as Unemployment.
