It is time for the healing of the long-standing wounds that have shaped so many of the sad and tragic racial events taking place throughout the United States of America. One of the horrific effects of slavery, racism, has been rearing its ugly head more and more in this country. When slavery was abolished, unfortunately racism was not. We as Americans have a responsibility to make every attempt to resolve this great divide. We can only do this together as one people, one family, and one nation. And what better way than to implement a National Holiday celebrating the huge step that mankind took together in the abolition of slavery. Let us take this opportunity to celebrate the ending of slavery; as well as, focus upon the ending of racism by walking together in love and unity.
