Implement legislation to change the National Motto in order to represent all Americans regardless of religious beliefs.

Created by B.W. on December 17, 2012

The current national motto "In god we trust" does not represent the belief system of a growing number of Americans and is unconstitutional in accordance with the 1st Amendment. According to the Pew Forum on Religion and Public Life, 16.1% of respondents describe themselves as having no religious beliefs or being atheist. This equates to nearly 50 million citizens who do NOT believe or trust in a god, some of whom may be offended by the assumption that they do. This petition urges the President of the United States to consider the desires and rights of all citizens, and institute legislation to change the national motto back to a more secular theme. Thank you!
