Currently only 6 of our state's have non-partisan redistricting commissions in place. 37 other states put this power in the hands of state legislatures. This allows for the unfair drawing of congressional districts otherwise known as gerrymandering. In 2015 the United States Supreme Court ruled that non-partisan commissions are constitutional after this was challenged in the state of Arizona. This needs to be implemented in every state of our nation. Partisan politics should not dictate how districts are drawn and politicians who are only worried about reelection and party majorities cannot be trusted to fairly draw lines. This is not an issue of states rights as much as it is civil rights of everyone in our country.
