We currently vote in a “winner-takes-all” voting system where the candidate that receives a majority of the vote “wins” and those in the minority lose. For example, if the electorate votes 49% for candidate A and 51% for candidate B in a given district, candidate B wins. In other words, the voters representing 49% of the electorate receive no representation in their Legislature as the representative acquiring 51% becomes your elected “voice” of majority. "Winner-takes-all” is obsolete and Proportional Representation resolves this by ensuring fair and equitable representation of the electorate. With PR, seats in the House are proportional to the amount of votes earned. A 5% threshold usually produces about 6 parties within a countries legislature allowing stability and temporary coalitions.
