The current plurality election system is deeply flawed, encouraging dishonest strategic voting and ensuring a two-party stronghold.
Range voting, AKA score voting, could work as follows:
Voters rate each candidate from 0-10 (or 0-100), or choose "no opinion." The candidate with the highest average score is the winner. To prevent a candidate with just a few high scores and primarily no-opinions from winning (though unlikely anyway), an equal number of zero-scores are added to each candidate.
Range voting would mean no vote splitting/spoiling, more honest voting, true choice, and more expressive voters, among other advantages.
It's time to give voters the voice they deserve.
