Term limits have been imposed on presidents, governors, and members of state congresses. Restricting the number of terms that a person may hold office is part of the checks and balances process so that no one person can monopolize the government.
Yet the senators and representatives who rule our federal Congress suffer no such restrictions. This leads to actions such as those of the 47 Republican senators who took it upon themselves to inform Iran condescendingly of our government's procedures and undermine any attempt to work out a nuclear agreement.
No one person, or group of people, should hold that amount of power over our nation for so long. Term limits should be imposed so that members must focus on working together for progress within the time they are allotted.
