Given the event that took place in Ferguson with Mike Brown, my petition is to implement the use of body cameras for on duty police officers in Cities that have high crime rates or areas that have high complaints against the police. With only the on duty officers wearing the cameras, the cost to store the data will cost less versus the every officer issued a camera. The type footage to be stored would be images to help corroborate or refute a criminal act. For example, the data of a video of a routine traffic stop would be deleted whereas the data of a person attempting to flee or cause harm to society would be stored until trial is over. In addition, the data would be stored by a third party so there would not be too much burden on the police technological infrastructure.
