While bargining with congress over budget proposals, the president should not offer to cut any benefits to the big three (SSN, Medicare and Medicaid). Any reform of the earned "entitlements" should be removing the cap on salary for SSN and Medicare taxes and reclassing all earned income as income for tax purposes. These steps will add enough income to SSN and Medicare to keep them solvent for many years to come. SSN and Medicare are an earned benefit that we pay into while we are working with the idea that they will be there when we stop working.
