Impose direct tariffs on manufactured imports, including a hefty car tax designed to protect our native auto industry.

Manufacturing jobs are the backbone of the U.S. middle class, supporting entire communities in many regions. Every manufacturing job supports an additional 2.4 jobs in supplier industries. President Obama should seize the opportunity to impose duties on surging imports. We need to "plug" the job leak in this country and restrict imports. I believe that is is important in addition to simple restrictions to also require ANY company that leaves the USA and takes jobs out of a community to pay a substantital EXIT tax designed to support the rebuilding of jobs in the community they leave behind. These could take the form of small business loans, retraining programs, etc.
