impose economic sanctions against India until they begin to make changes to protect women and children from violence.

Created by C.P. on May 29, 2014

There have been many prominent cases in India recently of extreme violence (i.e., rapes and gang rapes) and brutal murders of women and young girls. One of the difficulties presented is that the police don't take the crimes seriously, don't respond promptly, try to dissuade victims from reporting, etc. Another is that the courts don't provide punishments to the perpetrators commensurate to the violence of their crimes. India needs to know that the world is watching and is strongly stirred up against its lack of concern for a large part of its population. Economic sanctions might get the government to make changes in policy and will hopefully open a dialogue on societal attitudes and values that need to move forward with the times.
