Three-quarters of Americans agree that, given the opportunity, they would vote “for” term limits for members of both houses of Congress. It has become painfully clear that our Representatives cannot agree, or compromise, on issues that they are asked to address.
We propose a limit on the amount of time that a lawmaker can serve. This would, "encourage turnover and a fresh set of ideas", at a time when stalemates are the norm. This would also help legislators vote on the basis of principles, rather than popularity.
These limits should also include an overhaul of a pension-style retirement plan for future elected officials.
Our Founding Fathers never intended there to be 'lifers' in our government, and couldn't fathom anyone wanting to be one.
