Athletic trainers are licensed in most states to provide athletic training services including evaluation, management, treatment, and rehabilitation of injuries.
The American Medical Association has acknowledged athletic trainers as healthcare professionals since 1990 who collaborate with physicians to optimize activity and partitipation of patients and clients.
Athletic trainers have specific billing codes for reimbursement (AT evaluation and re-evaluation) as well as the general rehabilitation codes.
Because the CMS has excluded athletic trainers it has impacted the jobs and earning ability of professionals. Other insurance companies have prevented athletic trainers from reimbursement because of the decision made by the CMS.
Athletic trainers should have equal access to Medicare.
