Improve the American education system by focusing on good teachers and student learning, not testing

Created by C.J. on November 11, 2012

I would request that the focus of American education be brought back to learning, not testing.

Students do not actually LEARN through test-taking, so the emphasis on testing as the only method of evaluating a student is disheartening. A student's intelligence, aptitude, and potential for positive chance cannot be measured with a "one-size-fits-all" test. Their progress should instead be measured by their ability to contribute to society in a positive fashion.

Similarly, teachers should be encouraged to use creative and holistic teaching methods to bring out each student's potential as an individual. Teaching to the test does not help students; it causes them to dislike education.

Please follow the example of Finland and bring the focus back to good teachers and education, not tests.
