Improve maternity benefits for American mothers

Created by M.S. on September 12, 2013

A recent study found that, out of 178 nations, the US is one of three (along with Swaziland and Papua New Guinea) that does not guarantee caregivers paid leave. This is shameful. Canada provides one year of guaranteed maternity leave (and generous paternity leave as well); most countries in the developed world provide fourteen weeks or more. The FMLA is a start, but it is not paid, and excludes women who work for a company with fewer than 50 employees, which is a lot of us. It is not enough.

We call on the Obama administration to step forward in support of mothers, fathers, and families, to improve, extend, and secure paid leave for caregivers. This is about our future well-being as a society, and the well-being of America's children.
