Our schools are "safe havens" for criminals and terrorists, places where they can safely operate because state and federal law have prevented school faculty from being prepared to defend themselves and their students.
If a single mentally-disturbed young man a can bring the entire country to a halt in a few moments, the potential for terrorism by trained perpetrators is staggering.
Our children are our treasure and our future. We cannot make our schools into fortresses. But we can better train and equip school teachers and administrators, the people we trust with our children, to defend them.
We ask the administration to establish standards and provide funding to help the states train school faculty in defense to a level above that of the common civilian concealed handgun license.
