Every year around 50,000 refugees arrive in the United States. Most have suffered immensely before their arrival, but when they arrive they are faced with more hardship. They are forced to remain in jails and refugee detention centers where they are treated like prisoners, they are subject to an unfair and often inaccessible asylum application deadline, and once allowed into the US they may be left to fend for themselves with little understanding of our culture or how to start anew. We would like to improve these detention centers, eliminate the asylum deadline, and improve assimilation processes for new refugees.
