We the people ask the federal government to Propose a new Administration policy:

Improve Treatment of Mental Health Patients in Emergency Rooms

Created by J.Z. on June 10, 2016

Across the United States, the treatment of mental health patients in emergency rooms is inhumane.

This petition is to raise awareness of the mental health care crisis, and to open a dialogue to those who have been mistreated or affected by outdated policies.

This petition also would like to request:
1) Waiting no more than 2 hours to see an on-staff psychiatrist
2) Both the patient and family member/caretaker being truthfully informed at all times
3) No threats made in regards to detainment, removal of clothes, or leaving of premises
4) AMA when applicable
5) All basic human rights respected at all times

While there are some hospitals that are beacons of hope in terms of treatment for mental health patients, only 22% of patients and families reported positive experiences.
