Voter turnout in the last presidential election was 60 percent. Compared to other Western nations, such as the UK (66 percent) or Norway (77 percent), this is abysmal. In order for our democracy to be effective, more people should be voting. In places with compulsory voting, such as Australia, voter turnout rates can go as high as 93 percent.
We petition the Obama administration to incentivize voting, which will promote democracy and reflect the spirit of "government for the people".
