The Commission on Presidential Debates (CPD), the organization in charge of the presidential debates, mandates that candidates must have 15% or higher voter support in at least 5 national polls in order to participate in presidential debates. Most national polls exclude third party candidates, making it impossible to achieve the required percentage of support. Not only is this manipulative but it is also contrary to a democracy.
In the 2016 election more so than ever, it has become evident that many people are dissatisfied with traditional government. Many Americans are left feeling that they must vote for the "lesser of two evils" when in fact there are more than just two options. Everyone running for presidential office deserves equal representation in the form of debate participation.
