Without recognizing it, every time a survey is given which asks about the race and ethnicity of a person or family, we, the people in question, are forced to abdicate our statuses as Americans. We are reminded that we are being viewed by an ancestry that we may have little ties to. We are not once, on any of these forms, given any ideas to suggest that we can identify ourselves as fully American. This needs to change.
We, therefore, request that in any information the Federal Government requests about race and ethnicity give us the option to identify ourselves as American that we might feel, truly, represented.
