include an Ammunition Tax as part of comprehensive tax reform. It's rational, reasonable, responsible and constitutional

The second amendment is a bedrock part of the bill of rights. The right to own a firearm should be protected. The constitution says nothing about ammunition. As part of gun safety, all law-abiding gun-owners should support responsible use of weapons by people who respect them enough to bear an additional cost of using them. As part of comprehensive tax reform, an Ammunition Tax should be part of the conversation. There is ample precedent for such a system: people are not prevented from owning cars, for example, but the gasoline that cars need to work is taxed to help pay for the things cars need to be useful such as roads, bridges, and signals. An ammunition tax could pay for gun safety education & training, health care for injuries caused by guns, and school security programs. Thank you.
