Convicted rapists and violent criminals commit henious acts and should not have the right to reproduce. Especially in the case of rapists, castrating the criminal will prevent the person from impregnating another victim (if said criminal is male). In addition to jail time, this extra punishment will hopefully discourage the would-be criminal from committing such acts.
