include civil societies in the USA-African Leaders Summit of August 2014

Created by B.M. on May 02, 2014

To urge President Obama to include participation of civil society voices and issues of human rights in the upcoming U.S. - African Leaders Summit. President Obama's announcement in January 2014 to host the first ever United States-African Leaders Summit in August 2014 was received with high level of skepticism by the African communities abroad, skepticism due to the focus of the summit being solely on American interests in Africa: trade and investments. We need civil society voices to speak on behalf of the people of Africa on issues of human rights, good governance, and public accountability.Corruption must be banished at all costs. At the United Nations General Assembly in 2013, Obama stated his support for civil society freedoms. Ask President Obama to stand on his word.
