Our son is covered through a self-insurance plan so although we live in a state with a mandated autism coverage (including ABA therapy), our insurance company is not mandated to cover it. Federal/state employees and those on Medicaid are eligible for the mandate, however most families that are covered through their employer are not. Many are not poor enough for Medicaid but also not rich enough to afford to pay for out of pocket therapies that can run up to $80,000 per year. The MD waiver system for Medicaid has a waiting list of over 3000 families, children will wait for years for coverage. It has been established that ABA therapy is essential for all children with autism, so I implore each of you to research the effectiveness of ABA and sign this petition.
