When Reagan granted amnesty to nearly 3 million illegal immigrants, he promised tighter borders. He lied. We are now considering granting citizenship to nearly 12 million more individuals who entered the country illegally. Again we're being promised it's the last time because our borders will be tightened.
It's not enough to hope we won't be over-run again. Any immigration reform must include a "Never Again" clause, stating that anyone over 18 entering the U.S. illegally after the reform measure's cut-off date will be deported regardless of criminal status, and permanently barred from citizenship. They would be fingerprinted and registered on a list of barred individuals. This might encourage people to legally apply and wait their turn like law-abiding immigrants do.
