FAMILY LEAVE
Mr. President,
When a child dies, the dead child's parents, siblings, grandparents or spouse need extended time off from work.
It's inhuman to expect these people to return to work after three days funeral leave, where they can't function and then become in danger of losing their job.
When my daughter Wendy died, I could not eat or sleep-I lost 30 pounds in six weeks. I had nightmares about her death, autopsy, and cremation. I cried until I was exhausted and my anger was fearsome. I was not able to work.
And I am not alone. Compassionate Friends share the same story daily.
As a father, you can imagine. I pray you will never know.
Please fight for those of us who need extended family leave when our child dies.
Respectfully
