Drug consumption in the United States fuels gangs and violence in Central and South America, and potential drug consumers should know this.
Federally-funded drug prevention educational programs focus primarily on the health effects of drugs. This is a missed opportunity as drug use is thus painted as self-inflicted harm, and the far-reaching consequences of drug consumption are not addressed.
This petition asks that the government start incorporating awareness of the far-reaching international effects of drug consumption into their drug prevention efforts. Drug prevention awareness education should include:
- The effects of drug consumption on the prevalence of drug cartels and gang violence in Latin America.
- The effects of drug-fueled violence on illegal immigration into the US.
