Mental illnesses are becoming more common, with around 1 in 13 adolescents deliberately self harm and this number has gone up by 88% in just the last 10 years. About 11% of adolescents will have a type of depressive disorder and they shouldn't have to and learn to cope with it on their own. Keeping adolescents in the dark about mental illness will only stigmatize the issue. Students should be taught about the major mental illnesses to understand how to learn how to better take care of themselves mentally and know how to help others.
