Restaurants in many states are only required to pay $2-3 per hour to their waitstaff. Many employers (especially corporate restaurants) abuse this cheap labor and significantly over-staff. A noble occupation which once sustained many people is being destroyed.
The laws in place which require minimum wage compensation are widely disregarded.
Please consider a federal standard of compensation which will give the waitstaff workforce (which is quite large) a fighting chance.
