Increase the $2.13 federal minimum wage for restaurant servers

Created by K.D. on January 29, 2014

Currently the federal minimum wage of $2.13 an hour has not changed since 1991. Servers are not guaranteed a tip from the guest. A recent change in the IRS law for automatic gratuity for large parties has affected servers from across America. Removing gratuity puts the server at a financial risk due to guest inadequate tipping skills.

Example: Party of 10 with a bill of $329 leaves a total tip of $1.11 that is split between 2 servers. 2% of the sale goes to tip out which means the server has to pay out $2.70 to the restaurant.
